The Square, as of 2004, offers many new shopping choices ... the shopping area
has extended both south and north on Lamar. Many new businesses have started up
over the past year (2003).

Much has changed in the past two to three years since I wrote the above statement.

My attitude has become very defensive against what I am seeing.

Update for 2006- Small independent local businesses have come and gone,

one especially cool place was Hotdog Records.

Rent around the Square is outrageous and the greed and hunger for condos on the

actual Square itself have begun to eat up businesses that have been here forever.

Parking lots, green spaces, older homes and even newer business spaces are falling

under the spell of condomania as well. On the Square businesses are having to

relocate in order to make way for this dreaded phenomenon of condos.

The condo "aesthetic" reeks of

hottytoddy-upscalenewurbanist-granitecountertop-stainlesssteal-talldoors-realhardwoodfloors-

rightonthesquare-givemeyourbuilding-outsiderinvasion which is sponsored and endorsed

by our very own town and its greedy contractors and real estate businesses.

Oxford's very soul has been officially raped and removed.
